Handborne is an experimental platformer controlled through physical hand gestures captured by an ordinary webcam. Walk with two fingers. Jump with the motion of your hand.

The game is the first public demonstration of MotionCore, a gesture-input system designed to translate physical movement into responsive gameplay. Handborne exists to test that mechanism in a real game and to explore how new forms of input can inspire new forms of game design.

Requirements:

  • A working webcam
  • Enough space to hold one hand clearly in view
  • Reasonably even lighting
  • Windows 10/11, or an Apple Silicon Mac

NOTE: This is a beta release and is still in development. I’m looking for feedback on gesture recognition, responsiveness, onboarding, accessibility, performance, and overall game feel.

Beta platform notes:

  • macOS requires an Apple Silicon Mac. Because this beta is not yet notarized, you may need to Control-click the app and select Open the first time.
  • The Windows build is experimental and still needs testing across additional Windows 10/11 computers. Windows SmartScreen may display an “Unknown publisher” warning.

Privacy:
Camera frames are processed entirely locally on your computer for hand tracking. Handborne does not upload or store camera footage.
